How can Bepanthen help to protect your baby’s bum at night?

At any one time, a third of babies and toddlers are suffering from nappy rash – and yet many parents don’t take steps to protect their baby’s delicate bottoms.

Newborn baby’s skin is up to 40% thinner than adults’* and a baby’s bottom in particular will have to cope with some tough conditions – especially at bedtime when the nappy is usually on for longest.

One of the main causes of nappy rash is when the skin comes into contact with wee and poo. Even the best disposable nappies leave some moisture on baby’s delicate new skin and this can compromise the skin’s ability to act as a barrier.

Bepanthen works by:

  • Forming a protective and breathable barrier to reduce the contact your baby’s skin has with irritants.
  • Containing Provitamin B5 which gently aids natural recovery of sensitive skin while keeping it soft, smooth and moisturised.
  • Clinically Proven & Award Winning Protection: Best Nappy Cream by Parents (Loved By Parents 2016).

Award Winning Protection

Nappy Rash

– Redness, lesions, swelling or spots on your baby’s bottom, thighs and genitals.

– The rash may also be hot to the touch.

– Your baby’s behaviour might seem more troubled – they may cry when touched or washed, and wake frequently in the night because of discomfort.

– Use Bepanthen Nappy Care Ointment at every nappy change, especially at bedtime when the nappy is usually on for the longest period to help protect against the causes of nappy rash. Lightly massage the ointment into the bottom to help reinforce the skin’s natural barrier and help stop the chemicals in urine and faeces from irritating the skin.

– Change your child’s nappy five to seven times a day.

– Make sure you’re using the right nappy size. If it’s too tight, it can cause irritation.

– Let air get to your baby’s bottom as often as possible. For example, let him go nappy-free during winding.

– When you go out, remember to take a clean nappy with you, so your child doesn’t sit in a soiled one for too long.

– Always clean your baby’s bottom from front to back.

Treatment and prevention are very similar when it comes to nappy rash – both involve following some simple hygiene recommendations, such as changing your baby’s nappy whenever it’s soiled, giving your baby nappy free time and using gentle products that are specially developed for your baby’s delicate skin. NHS suggests the best way to deal with nappy rash is to prevent the baby getting it in the first place.

Using a barrier cream like Bepanthen Nappy Care Ointment helps protect the baby’s skin from the causes of nappy rash.

Establishing a Bedtime Routine

Stick To Your Routine

As any parent will tell you, the first six weeks of life with your newborn will leave you with a whole new sense of what it means to be sleep deprived!

While your baby will most definitely sleep a lot – up to 18 hours a day*** – most likely these periods of sleep will be in short spells of three hour intervals, meaning you need to learn to function at your best on a rather disrupted night’s sleep.

Every baby is different but establishing some calming bedtime rituals early on can make the journey to a blissful night’s sleep so much easier.

Winding Down

There’s nothing quite like the power of a warm bath to soothe the mind and body before bedtime. And for your little one, it’s a magical time when they can enjoy your lovely touch and undivided attention.

Too much stimulation or excitement might wake your baby up again, so you might wish to follow bath time with some comforting music, a story, or perhaps a massage or a lovely cuddle before you put them down for the night.

Top tip:

Try to avoid feeding too close to bedtime to help prevent your baby directly associating eating with sleep as this may lead them to expect a feed every time he/she wakes up.

Dry Bottoms

Bedtime is usually the longest period between nappy changes when your baby’s delicate skin is exposed to wee and poo which when left can trigger nappy rash. Nappy rash is the most common skin complaint developed during infancy** and this unpleasant condition can make your baby more agitated, interrupting their sleep, and in turn causing distress for both you and baby.

So as well as ensuring your baby has a clean dry nappy, give their skin an extra layer of protection against the causes of nappy rash at bedtime with a quick application of Bepanthen’s Nappy Care Ointment. The ointment forms a moisturising, breathable layer, protecting even the most sensitive skin from the causes of nappy rash.

  3. Asian Delight

I had been struggling with sore chapped lips and I’d developed a lip peeling problem self inflicted I hasten to add. My lips were so painful and bleeding I used all manner of lip balms at various price points none worked. Then I remembered hearing Bepanthen is great as a lip balm it’s also fine for cracked nipples during breast feeding. Hence it’s safe to apply to the lips.Total game changer not had any issues since I’ve started using. Now I have soft supple lips.

  4. Violeta

  9. Wonderstones

I’ve had issues with dry lips since the start of lockdown, mainly due to mask wearing but could also be menopause. Constant cracked sore lips and Angular Cheilitis in the corners of my mouth. I’ve tried just about every lip balm in the market O’keeffes, nivea, burts bees, coconut oil, palmers, sodocrem, vaseline, balmonds, hydrocortisone on the angular cheilitis. Smothering my lips in product before sleeping to stop them drying out during the night. When my lips were at their worse inevitably a cold sore would also surface. Nothing I tried really shifted it.I stumbled upon Bepanthen one night whilst searching for a different remedy to try, and having read another review about using on lips I bought it. I thought I’d test if for a few months before writing my review. I can honestly say what a difference it has made to my lip. It’s thick and really soothing when applied, it creates an instant barrier that lasts. I apply often throughout the day and lots before going to sleep, making sure I never letting my lips dry out. My lips now feel nourished, gone is the itchy outer edge and corner of my lips and the dryness, I really do feel I finally have my condition under control now. I’ve even started to be able to wear lipstick again! I decant it into little tubs and never leave the house without it. So if you’re struggling with dry lips then I definitely recommend giving this a go!

  10. Lily Hardwick

My daughter was so sore due to allergies and I tried lots of other cream but nothing seemed to work. I tried bepantham and within 2 days her bottom was nearly back to normal! Would use again
