About this item ✔ A WORLD OF GOODNESS: In a world of fad diets, quick bites, and intricate recipes, don’t forget about simple, nourishing organic wholefoods. Wholefood Earth is certified organic and has officially been awarded a 5-star Food Hygiene Rating ✔ NUTRITIOUS Organic Brown Basmati Rice: Only the outermost layers of grains and shells are removed, while the bran is kept intact, preserving beneficial elements in brown rice. Produced in Asia at the foot of the Himalayas. The gentle milling process removes broken grains and separates the starch that makes the rice sticky. ✔ HIGH-QUALITY INGREDIENTS: One technique of categorising rice is by size. Because of their high starch content, short grains are the stickiest rice, whereas long grains tend to remain separated and are significantly lighter when cooked. All brown rice variants are entire grains with just the inedible hull removed. After cooking, whole grains become fluffy and airy, making long brown rice great for pilafs, salads, and fillings. ✔ INSTRUCTION FOR USE: Allow 75g of rice per person. Rinse rice in cold water. Add 2 parts water and 1-part rice, bring a large pan of water to a boil. Add rice to the pan, stir and return to the boil. Cover and simmer for 22-25 minutes. Once cooked, remove from heat and fluff the rice with a fork. ✔ JUST THE GOOD STUFF / FULLY RECYCLABLE PACKAGING: We intend to get the purest gifts of Mother Nature from all over the world and offer to our customers the purest, organic, and healthy gifts of nature. Our products are gathered from the best origins ✔ OUR STORY: We believe that Mother Nature knows best when it comes to quality, nutrition, and taste. Wholefood Earth Organic Brown Basmati Rice

What Is Organic Brown Basmati Rice?

Basmati rice is a type of rice grown in the Himalayas, Pakistan and also India. Just like all species of rice, basmati is available in white or brown versions, depending on the extent of the milling process. Like jasmine rice, it has its own unique smell.

Brown basmati rice is comparable to other types of brown rice in nutrient content (although it does contain about 20% more fibre compared to most other types of brown rice), and white basmati rice is comparable to other types of white rice. To understand more about the difference between brown basmati rice and white basmati rice, let’s look at the difference between brown and white rice in general

Why Should I Get Organic Brown Basmati Rice?

The difference between brown rice and white rice is not just colour! A whole grain of rice has several layers, Only the outermost layer, the hull, is removed to produce what we call brown rice. This process is the least damaging to the nutritional value of the rice and avoids the unnecessary loss of nutrients that occurs with further processing.

If brown rice is further milled to remove the bran and most of the germ layer, the result is a whiter rice, but also a rice that has lost many more nutrients. At this point, however, the rice is still unpolished, and it takes polishing to produce the white rice we are used to seeing. Polishing removes the aleurone layer of the grain – a layer filled with health supportive essential fats, and because these fats, once exposed to air by the refining process, are highly susceptible to oxidation, this layer is removed to extend the shelf life of the product.

  1. jammed

Would have been 5 stars IF the bag had been resealable.

  2. DPMG

Fundamentally, I bought this because it’s organic. It’s relatively expensive, but organic and tasty.

  3. Ste

It cooks perfectly and tastes delicious. Highly recommended. This is my go-to rice now.

  4. Doa

Great with a prawn or chicken curry, reasonably priced clean with a good flavour.

  5. scotty999s

This rice is fabulous, very clean and tastes great, it is now our favourite rice.

  6. Mrs. H

I’ve never bought this large amount before, but liked the sound of this one. It has only just arrived, but have just tried some, and it’s lovely, Not sure if I’ve cooked it right, but I covered in cold water, brought to the boil ,scooped the frothy bits off, simmered for 20 mins and then tried it. It is very earthy, but then nearly all wholegrains are, it was cooked, but I continued for another 5 mins. Rinsed in a colander (I used hot water, but some friends always use cold water) and I found it so much nicer. I would buy this again.

  7. Ms. S. D. Findlay

Brought this for my vegetarian in laws and immediately was bowled over for the price I got it for £3.33 for three kilos. I thought it was a mistake, but when it finally came, the price was the same. Went to buy again, gone up to £13. Rice was delicious and they asked for more. Just have to keep my eyes out for another mistake.

  8. David F Graham

This stands in positive contrast to the bleached white basmati on supermarket shelves. It requires washing and longer cooking time than the latter but the prepared outcome is much more satisfying in both texture and taste. This is real rice.

  9. Amazon Customer

This time makes such a difference to a meal. Great texture and flavour, well worth the extra cost.

  10. MR JULIAN REED

This is my first experience with brown basmati rice. And it has become my favourite rice – it tastes wholesome and has a nuttier taste that white basmati rice. It is slightly al dente, which I prefer to results from white basmati of a similar cooking time. We rinse it once before cooking. My wife has recently mixed this rice (50/50) with white basmati, but the flavour still comes through. I think the product is good value for money and I will buy it again.
